Melvin E. (Mel) Bradley – April 28, 2012

Melvin “Mel” Bradley, 79, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 28, 2012.
Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd with the Reverend Kevin Deckard officiating.  Burial will be in Happy Cemetery.   Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Melvin was born on July 4, 1932, on a farm in southeastern Swisher County, Texas to Hattie and Price Bradley.  The youngest of four children, he attended school in Kress.  When the family moved to a farm between Tulia and Happy, he attended Happy High School, graduating in 1950.
He married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Lemmons, on January 11, 1952.  They celebrated their 60th anniversary this past January.
He was an avid sportsman, playing football, basketball and running track in high school.  Later he enjoyed playing golf, winning several tournaments.
He worked for Farm Bureau Insurance for many years, retiring in 1987.  He and Phyllis moved to Amarillo in 1995.  Melvin joined the Methodist church at an early age and was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Shelley Cay Bradley, a grandson, Taylor Ray Bradley, two brothers, Homer and Carl Bradley, and a sister, Ada Riley.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; a son, Chris Bradley and wife Jan, of Amarillo; a grandson, Nathan Bradley and his fiancé, Jessica Preston, of Houston; a brother-in-law, Johnny Lemmons, of Houston, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
