Maughn R. “Monnie” Behunin, 77, of Amarillo, TX passed away Tuesday, October 1,2019.

Private services were held with Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo, TX.

Monnie was born November 17,1941 in Bicknell, Utah to Leslie Merrill Behunin and Juanita Ortega Behunin.

The Behunin family established residency in the South Bay Region of Los Angeles County, in Torrance, California. He went on to graduate from North High School Torrance, California in 1960. He worked at Long Beach Naval Shipyards as a machinist before enlisting in the Army at the age of 22. He served from 1963-1965. After 5 years of Reserve Duty he was Honorably Discharged in June 1969.

Moved to Texas in 1976. He worked for Lawyer’s Title Insurance beginning in 1976 and retired after 30 years of loyal serve in 2006.

He was preceded in death by his father Leslie Merrill Behunin, his mother Juanita Ortega Behunin, sister Gloria Williams, sister Judy Williams, and daughter Monica Behunin.

Monnie is survived in death by his devoted wife of 38 years, Patti of Amarillo; eldest brother, Leslie Merrill “Buddy” Behunin Jr. of  Wildomar, California; son, Maughn Romulo  “Romie” Behunin, of Amarillo, TX; a son, L. Dene Matthews and his wife Angel, of Maypearl, TX, daughter Laura Matthews and Leah Goldstein of Richardson, Texas; and 5 grandchildren; Aidan, Rylee, Jordan, Jade and Dalton.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the High Plains Food Bank Amarillo, TX.

Very sorry to read about Monnie today . . .got to know him when he went to work for Guaranty Abstract back in the 70’s with Rusty and Tolly Jones . .I was in the insurance business . .Would see at Lawyer’s Title now and then when I needed calendars . .Haa!! . .Was a good guy and always good to me . . Know you will miss him Patti and so will many of us that knew him . . .Dave
