Matthew John Crawford

Matthew John Crawford, 41, of Vega, TX passed away January 7, 2020.

Services will be at 3:00 P.M., Friday, January 10, 2020, at Vega High School Auditorium, with John Herweg and Winfield Davenport officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at Vega, with Charles Davenport officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Matthew John Crawford started his journey on earth July 27, 1978 in Canadian, TX, born to Johnny and Patty Crawford. He spent his young years in Canadian until the family moved to Carthage, Tx. It was here that he celebrated his spiritual birthday when he gave his life to Jesus on a Sunday night thanks to his teacher Sandy. Matt was privileged and extremely blessed to grow up in godly home where his mom and dad taught him to love Jesus and serve him faithfully.

Matt graduated high school in 1996 in Hollis, OK and went on to Wayland Baptist where after 4 ½ grueling years he received his undergrad in Religion (biblical studies). It was at Wayland that God gave him the second-best thing and the most valuable treasure in his life (after his salvation) when he met Jalie Robnett. After wearing her down for 18 months, she finally said yes & she became Mrs. Matt Crawford on a chilly day in January 2002. After 5 glorious years of marriage God blessed Matt & Jalie with the first of 4 treasures when Sophi was born on a rainy night in August 2017. God has blessed Matt & Jalie with 4 amazing little men and women of God with Elijah, Zeph, and Heidi.

Matt began his ministry career at the age of 19, serving as a summer children’s / youth intern at Royal Oaks Church in Everman, TX. He went on to serve as his dad’s youth minister at FBC Mobeetie and the youth minister at FBC Matador while at Wayland. He has attempted to serve God faithfully while pointing people to Jesus throughout his 20 years in ministry. He served FBC Matador and FBC Vega as pastor. He worked way too many hours as the Assistant Camp Director at Ceta Canyon Camp and Retreat Center. He served as volunteer youth minister, house church starter, men’s ministry coordinator, and various other positions when not in full-time positions. It was never about his kingdom; it’s always been about building God’s Kingdom!

God has taught Matt his greatest lessons in compassion, patience, humility, and trusting God through his journey of prostate cancer the last 2 years. He wants all of you to know, cancer didn’t win. God was ready for him to come home.

After meeting Jesus, he is visiting with both sets of grandparents who went on to Heaven before him.

He hopefully has made an impact that will last for years to come on his wife Jalie and 4 kids: Sophia, Elijah, Zeph, and Heidi of Vega. His parents Johnny and Patty Crawford of Wheeler, TX. His sister Mandy Owens and husband Jason of Yukon, OK and their two boys: Jonathan and David. The most loving and supportive church family of FBC Vega, many co-workers, enemies, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Thursday, January 9, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Vega. Viewing will be from 11:00 A.M.- 7:00 P.M., Thursday, January 9, 2020 and 10:00 A.M.- 1:00 P.M., Friday, January 10, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Vega.
