Mary “Chris” Christine Drummond, 85, of Amarillo, TX died November 5, 2020.

Memorial services will be at 11:30 A.M., Saturday, November 14, 2020, at the Church of Christ at The Colonies with ministers Dick Marcear and Jeff Keele, of the church, and Dr. Jay Lockhart of Tyler, TX, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Chris was born in Temple, TX, on February 5, 1935, to Sam and Jewell Vannatta; however, she and her sister were raised at Boles Home, an orphanage near Quinlin, TX. After graduating from high school, she moved to Commerce, TX., where she found a job as a telephone operator.

She married there and became a military wife. After several moves with her Air Force husband, they ended his career in Denver, CO. Then eventually the couple moved to Amarillo, TX where they have been for the past 11 years. She loved reading, cooking, baking, and keeping up with family on her iPhone.

Chris married Don Drummond on August 30, 1952, and was a member of the Church of Christ at The Colonies.

Survivors include her husband, Don Drummond; son, Dave Drummond and wife Anne of Aurora, CO; daughter, Jill Drummond of Sacramento, CA; grandsons, Brian Drummond, and Brad Drummond and his wife Jessie; and great-grandchildren, Brody and Jaxon.

  1. Chris was a very special lady and loved by all who knew her. I will miss her bright smile and hugs we share ever Sunday. She was so cheerful and always smiling.

  2. Dear Don & family, Chris was a dear friend, I will miss her. We always sat near Chris and Don at church & got better acquainted at our small group meetings.
    I always enjoyed visiting with her. My daughter remembers her from church services as well. She was a lovely lady and will be missed by many.

    Our hearts are with you in spirit. I am sorry that we couldn’t be there with you for the service. I know that it will be beautiful.

  4. Don: Thought of you and Cris today as I passed your house (which is for sale) on Brookhaven. Jan Cook had called about Cris, and I was so sorry to hear about it. Love you both.
