Marjorie Belle Stear – December 26, 2011


Marjorie Belle Matherne Stear, formerly of New Iberia, Louisiana, passed away peacefully from this life on Monday, Dec. 26th, holding the hand of her loving husband, David, at BSA Hospice.  She was 81 years of age.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in New Iberia, Louisiana.  Interment will follow at Beau Pre Memorial Park Cemetery in Jeanerette, Louisiana.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, Marjorie was born on April 19, 1930, in Houma, Louisiana.  Before marrying David Spring Stear, her husband of 57 years, Marjorie worked as a clerk and typist.  She worked intermittently during her married years and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, but her vocation was raising her five daughters, Freda Anne, of New Iberia, married to Charles Garrison, Sr.; Susan Spring, of Dallas, Texas, married to Robin McGuire; Joan Elizabeth Stear, of Abbeville; Ruth Allison, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, married to Jeff Otterbacher; and Margaret Frances Stear, of Amarillo, Texas.  Affectionately known as Jay, Marjorie doted on her four grandchildren:  Charles Garrison, Jr., of Clarksville, Tennessee, and his wife Jennifer; Katie, of Spring, Texas, and her husband, Blake Habbit; David Garrison, of Belton, Texas; and Gordon McGuire, of New Orleans.  Marjorie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.  She remained especially close to her niece, Leita and her husband, Gerard Ledet, of Houma.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Preva A. Matherne and Onelia Mary Savoie Matherne, and her siblings, Viola Tollefson; Verna Caskey; Morris Matherne; Rita Traweek; Mildred Winders; Leroy Matherne; and Merrill Pitre.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Garrison, Sr., Robin McGuire, Jeff Otterbacher, Matt Scalapino, David Garrison, Gordon McGuire, and Gerard Ledet.
The family would like to thank BSA Hospice and Park Place Towers for their loving and supportive care of both Marjorie and her family.
