Marilyn Hughes, 75, of Vega died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011.
Graveside services will be at a later date in Emporia, Kan. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Marilyn Hughes lived her life devoted to her family, students, animals and her love of antiquing. She taught for more than 25 years. She took great pride in her involvement in the lives of children.
All animals, but particularly horses, held a special place in Marilyn’s heart. As a young woman, she was an avid horsewoman and pursued this interest late in her life by raising miniature horses. She was thrilled when her horses were asked to pull a miniature carriage carrying Miss Rodeo America in Las Vegas.
Crossing the country many times, Marilyn and her husband, Ron, followed auctions and antiquing events. She was an enthusiastic collector and a skilled bargain hunter.
Marilyn loved her children and took delight in her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Hughes in 2008.
She is survived by her daughter, Mindy Robins and husband Brooks of Vega; and two grandsons, Cole and Reese; her sons, Scott Hughes and wife Jodi of Rocky Ford, Colo., and Todd Hughes and wife Carey of Castle Rock, Colo.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mindy Robins, 6701 County Road 37 in Vega, to reflect and remember the life of Marilyn Hughes.
The family suggests memorials be to Vega EMS, P.O. Box 411, Vega, TX 79092.
