Marie “Gran Gran” Salmon, 95, of Amarillo, TX passed September 30, 2020.

Services will be held Saturday, October 3rd at Boxwell Brothers Chapel at 10:00 am with Jim Shelburne officiating. A private burial will follow in Clarendon.

Marie was born in Caddo Mills, Texas on November 10, 1924, to John and Annie Collins.  The family moved to Brice, Texas while she was still young. She attended Lakeview schools and met the love of her life, Pete Salmon there.  The two married when she was 16 on December 14, 1941, and moved to Fredericksburg where Pete joined the Army. After his service, the couple moved to Memphis, Texas where they welcomed a baby girl, Linda in 1947.  Their final move was to Amarillo in 1949 when their son, Jon was born.

Marie worked at Mason and Hanger for over 30 years. When she retired, she became a full-time Gran Gran.  She loved to garden and sew.  She leaves a lasting legacy of love and commitment to her family. There was only one Gran Gran!

Marie was preceded in death by her parents John and Annie Collins, her brother Clifford, sister Murrell, her husband Pete, son Jon, two grandsons Cody and Clay Salmon, and a great-grandson, Drew Duval.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Thurston and husband David, her daughter in law Rhonda Salmon, grandkids Robert Thurston and wife Jill, Dawn Duval and husband Randy, Casey Salmon and wife Tara, and Shannon Salmon, wife of Cody.  Great-grandkids were the light of her life.  Shaylee Salmon, Ryan Thurston, Matt Thurston, Dalton Duval, Abby Duval, Blake Thurston, and Slade Salmon.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to El Porvenir Christian Camp in care of Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S Washington, Amarillo, Tx 79110.

  1. There was not a sweeter lady than Marie Salmon. I worked with her at the Pantex Plant. She always had a smile for you. God Bless your family.

  3. Linda and David. I am so very sorry to hear of the double grief the family is sharing today. My heart is very full for you. They both lived a very long time and surely go to a much better place now. God bless you and the families.
