Lucy Provencio Ortega, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church Chapel with Father Scott L. Raef officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Lucy was born March 6, 1930, in Mesilla Park, N.M., to Gabriel F. Provencio and Beatrice Banegas Provencio. She was one of nine children.
Lucy and her husband of 31 years, Daniel Ortega, 94, lived most of their lives in southern New Mexico until they moved to Amarillo in 2006 to be close to family. They are members of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Lucy enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, travelling, fishing and watching game shows. They were members of the Airstream Travel Trailer Clubs and enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren and friends. Devan and Kaelin Glover, their grandchildren of Amarillo, loved growing up around their grandparents and enjoyed spending time with them in the New Mexico mountains every summer.
Lucy died with her family by her side.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers, Walter Provencio, Henry Provencio, Sammy Provencio and Charlie Provencio, all of Las Cruces, N.M., and Roy Provencio of El Paso.
Survivors include her loving husband, Daniel; two sons, Walter Terry and wife Sandy of Fort Worth and Ernest Terry of Hubbard; a daughter, Liz Glover and husband Jeff of Amarillo; three sisters, Amy Gamboa of El Paso, Josie Alvillar of Las Cruces and Christine Corral of Corpus Christi; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
