Louis “Viche” S. Renteria, 89, of Amarillo, TX died Wednesday, August 26, 2020.

Rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, August 30, 2020, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 31, 2020, in St. Mary’s Cathedral with Father Roy Kafula, celebrating.  Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Renteria was born, May 9, 1931, in Amarillo, TX to Florencio B. and Esther S. Renteria.

He married Anastacia Rodriguez on July 23, 1950, in Amarillo, TX. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year.

In 1951, he became an apprentice bricklayer. Eventually becoming a master bricklayer and mason. Mr. Renteria successfully operated Renteria Masonry Contractors. He specialized in creating masterful fireplaces and his craftmanship was sought by builders from Amarillo, TX and Dallas, TX.

He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Louis donated his masonry talents to various building projects at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church over the years. This included an expansion of the main church building. He had a generous heart and was known to help others find employment and would feed those who knocked on his door.

Louis was well known for his sense of humor and he always had a good story for every occasion. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Even in his retirement, he could be found working on small projects for family members. He enjoyed reading the newspaper daily and watching the Dallas Cowboys play while enjoying his favorite snacks of popcorn and peanuts. He also enjoyed watching the Wheel of Fortune.

Louis was truly loved and adored by his family and he will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Florentina Lopez; his brothers, Santos, Martin, Vicente, Alberto, and Fernando Renteria; one grandchild, Nicholas Renteria; and daughter-in-law, Sara Renteria.

Louis is survived by his wife, Anastacia R. Renteria of the home; four daughters, Maria Nieves Ornelas; Margarita Smith and husband Dale; Candelaria “Candy” Betancourt and husband Daniel, all of Amarillo, TX; and Luisa Marchbanks and husband Dwayne, of Frisco, TX; three sons, Marcos Renteria and wife Lydia, Julian Renteria and wife Sandra, and Leonardo Renteria, all of Amarillo; two brothers, Antonio Renteria and Raymond Renteria; three sisters, Jesus “Chuy” Palacio; Luz Gutierrez; and Benita Ruiz; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

  4. Condolences to the Rentería family My heart thoughts and prayers are with you all. Y’all were the first family we met when we moved to Amarillo. Your dad always made us laugh and was a great friend to our family the Montoyas. You left an impression in our hearts and you will always be remembered. You were my brother George godfather.

    Sorry for your loss. Your dad will truly be missed. He always helped everyone. When my parents Ernest & Fidelia Montoya came to Amarillo in 1965 Your dad helped them get established they became lifetime friends. Even after my parents death. Both of your parents continued to visit us . We appreciated and loved their company, They both were so funny making us laugh so hard. I know how much he will be missed . Prayers to all of the family 💕💞💕💕💞💕
