Loretta “Skip” Culwell, 72, of Amarillo, died Monday, February 6, 2012. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Boxwell Brothers Memorial Chapel, 500 N. Maddox, Burial will be at the Channing Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Loretta was born in Oklahoma City on July 18, 1939 to Joseph and Eva Simpson. She lived in Texas from 1966 until 1973. She then moved to Elk City, Ok. and worked for a furniture manufacturing company building home furniture.
Loretta returned to Texas in 1975 and remained here until 1992. She then moved to Albuquerque, Nm. becoming a security officer. She worked in several high risk areas for Pinkerton, Burns, and Wackenhut security companies.
Loretta retired after 12 years due to health issues. She returned to Texas in July 2004 where she resided with her domestic partner, Nelda Phillips. Loretta was an avid lover of all animals, especially dogs.
She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Larry Culwell.
She is survived by her domestic partner, Nelda Phillips of Amarillo; two daughters, Karen Joyce of Anza, Ca., Debbie White of Birmingham, Alabama; a daughter-in-law, Mona Culwell of Woodward, Ok.; four brothers, Bennie Simpson of Ok. City, Ok; Charlie Simpson of Port Orchard, Wa., Raymond Simpson of Modesto, Ca., Casper Simpson of Lakewood, Ca.; two sisters, Thelma Holmes of Norman, Ok., Robin Smith of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; and many friends who loved her and will miss her.
