Loretta "Rita" Janssen – April 16, 2011

Loretta “Rita” Janssen, 71, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 16, 2011.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Comanche Trail Church of Christ with Loran Harper officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Janssen was born on November 21, 1939 in Tucumcari, NM to Hepsie and Austin Ile.   She graduated from Melrose High School.   She had been the bookkeeper for Dale Young, CPA for 35 years.   Mrs. Janssen was very active at Comanche Trail Church of Christ.   She  loved to read and was a very good cook and a loving wife, mother and grandmother.     She was also a foster parent.
She married Dan Janssen on October 9, 1959 in Amarillo.
Mrs. Janssen was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Jaunnetta and Jaunneava; and two brothers, Elbert and Ross.
She is survived by her husband, Dan Janssen, of the home; two sons, Darren Janssen and wife Christi of Amarillo; Dana Janssen and wife Lacy of Brentwood, TN; her brother, Carroll Blasingame and wife Ruth, of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, Dustin Janssen and Cameron Martin of Amarillo; Shelby Janssen of Abilene; Madison Martin of Amarillo; Micaela Janssen, Audrey Janssen and Elizabeth Janssen, all of Brentwood, TN.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home and suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Children’s Emergency Home, c/o Comanche Trail Church of Christ, P.O. Box 30516, Amarillo, TX  79120.

  1. We were saddened to hear this about Rita. She was a lovely person. We have many memories of her and the family during the time we lived in Amarillo. May God comfort you.

  2. My heartfelt sympathy for your loss. Can’t remember how old I was when I first met Rita as a kid back at either Southside or Southwest. But she was a great Christian woman and I’m sad to hear that she’s left us. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

  5. Rita has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. A fine Christian who has spent her life serving others. She will be missed. May God’s blessings continue to be on the family as they work through this difficult time of loss.
