Lilly Mayes Camden – December 26, 2012

Lilly Mayes Camden, 99, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Lilly was born Sept. 28, 1913, in Lorenzo to George E. Mayes and Laura M. Johnston Mayes.  Lilly was the last surviving child of eight children.  She later lived in Crosbyton and worked in the Crosby County Agricultural Adjustment Administration office for several years.  Lilly served from July 18, 1943 to January 30, 1946, in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II.  She was stationed at Camp Breckenridge, KY.  She moved to Amarillo in 1946, and worked for the Housing Authority at Pantex Village.  She married Thomas Franklin Camden on Aug. 16, 1947 and together had three children.  Lilly worked several years for Williams Boyce Insurance Agency and retired in 1981.
Lilly loved to read, take family trips, play bingo, attend family gatherings, and go to military reunions.  She was most happy when her family was all together with her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas in 2002; and a grandson, Brian Scott Nomelli.
The family would like to thank the staff and many friends at Seville Estates, Hospice Care of the Southwest and Good Care for their gracious and loving care of Lilly.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Nomelli and husband Steve and Judy Camden and Carrie Brice; a son, Tommy Camden and wife Christina; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice Care of the Southwest, 6600 Killgore Drive, #110, Amarillo, TX 79106; or a local veterans association.
