Lillian Laurese Stewart, 92, of Amarillo, TX died Thursday, November 26, 2020.

Services will be private due to Covid.  Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Laurese was born August 24, 1928 in Lubbock, TX.  Her parents were Dr. Samuel H. Stewart and Tressie Stewart Cosper.  Dr. Stewart passed away in 1935.  At the age of fourteen, she was blessed with a loving stepfather, Philip Earl Cosper.

After completing high school at Duncan, OK, Laurese attended Oklahoma State University and the University of Arkansas.  She met and married William Robert Stapleton.  She was an Air Force wife for twenty-five years.

Laurese had two children, Christy Stapleton Blake and husband Paul, of Canyon, TX, and Mark Stapleton and wife Claudia of Lubbock, TX.  Her grandchildren are Wendy Frick and husband Max, of Amarillo, TX, and Austin Blake, of Olney, TX.  Her great-grandchildren are Caleb Frick and Hannah Frick.

Laurese was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Homebuilders Sunday school class at Polk Street United Methodist Church.  She joined Homebuilders in 1968.  This class and friends were among her treasures.

She participated in a number of creative activities, but her favorite outlet was painting.  She always said, “Hours spent painting are happy hours for me.”  She worked primarily in watercolor and pastel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to The Amarillo Children’s Home,  3400 Bowie, Amarillo, TX 79109.

  1. I had the pleasure of knowing your when she was marry to John Duncan. She was always very kind to me and I really appreciated the way she handled the situation with him never. I know she will be missed and my prayers are with you.Ron Boyd
