Lillian Estelle Satterwhite, 89, of Amarillo, TX died Saturday, February 27, 2021.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2021, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Joan Gaines and Larry Brooks officiating.  Burial will be private.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Lillian was born April 14, 1931, in Lometa, TX to H.V. and Jimmie Richards.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Hardin-Simmons University.  Lillian spent most of her career working for Santa Fe Railroad as a stenographer and assistant to the traffic superintendent.  She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Lillian was blessed with a servant’s heart and her joy came from taking care of family and friends. Her days were often spent accompanying friends and family members to doctor’s appointments, cooking meals for loved ones, and performing small tasks for friends just to help them out. She was the most selfless woman, always putting the needs of others before her own. All of her many friends and family members experienced the Lord’s love through Lillian’s words and actions. She was a wonderful example of serving people and loving people the way Christ loved the church. Her presence was comforting and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, H.V. and Jimmie Richards; her brother, Herman Vecy Richards, Jr.; her sister, Edith Beall and her former husband, William G. “Bud” Satterwhite.

Lillian is survived by a son, Steve Satterwhite and wife Chemayne; daughter, Sharon Sasser and husband Rick; sister, Marjorie Hine; grandchildren, Whitney Estes and husband Kyler, Taryn Bainum and husband Tyson, Scott Sasser and wife Erin, Brian Sasser and wife Jordan, and Jeff Sasser; great-grandchildren, Henry Sasser, Temperance Sasser, Haiden Sasser, Grayson Sasser, Kasen Estes, Caroline Estes, Madeleine Estes, Beren Bainum, and Jacob Bainum; nieces, Cathy Hine, Pam Bellar and husband Jerry, Judy Cranfill, and Celia Cranfill; nephew Marc Satterwhite and wife Rebecca Jemian.

The family will receive friends from 3:30-5:00 p.m., Thursday, March 4, 2021, at the funeral home.

  2. So sorry to get the news, and we are also sorry we can’t be with family right now. It was great having my aunt, uncle and cousins down the block when I was growing up. We had so many lovely times with them.

Rebecca and I stayed with Lillian many times when we would come to Amarillo. There was always great food and great conversation, and lots of laughter.

I have never known anyone so totally loving and giving in my life. As the obituary notes, her love for and devotion to family and friends was absolute and she could not do enough for anyone in her circle.

She gave Rebecca the same love she gave me when we got married and we are so lucky to have had her in our lives for so long.

We send our love to all who will miss her.

  4. Aunt Lilly was one of the people I loved most in this world. I know I drove her crazy always hanging around her house. Every time I would visit MawMaw and Grandaddy, I would end up at her door. Lillian was the best friend my MawMaw ever had. She loved her so, and she did so much to help MawMaw when Grandaddy passed away. She was a constant. The truest heart I have ever known. I am a better person for having known Lillian.
