Leroy Stewart Milton – January 17, 2012

Leroy Stewart Milton, 87 of Amarillo, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Llano Cemetery with Roger Smith, pastor at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, officiating.   Military rites will be by DAV Chapter 26.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Leroy was born on December 10, 1924 on the family farm south of Whitedeer to Elmer Stewart Milton and Marie B. Spangler Milton.  He graduated from Whitedeer High School in 1943.  He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and obtained the rank of technical sergeant.  He served as a combat engineer in the liberation of the Philippines.  He taught school to the Filipinos teaching them how to drive heavy duty equipment.  He earned two bronze stars and citations.  He farmed and ranched all of his life.  He also was a heavy duty mechanic specializing in Cummins and Caterpillar. Leroy loved to ride Harleys, water ski, cigars, and to tinker and fix things.  He loved his cat, Buddy, and dogs, Honey and Rockie.
He married Fran Milton in the old Carson County Courthouse in Panhandle.  Judge Beddingfield performed the ceremony.
He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Gary Milton, killed in Vietnam.
Leroy is survived his sons, Glen Milton and wife Donna of Dalhart, Greg Milton and wife Teresa of Amarillo; mother of his children, Fran Milton of Amarillo; sister, Jenny Bailey of Amarillo; sister-in-law, Jean Spangler of Amarillo; two half sisters, Elma and Lulu; a step-brother Lynn “Sandy” Morris; four grandchildren, Gari, Gina, Vanessa all of Dalhart, and Michael of Amarillo; and nine great-grandchildren; and special friends, David and Beverly Robinson, of Amarillo, and the family of his childhood friend, the late Guy D. Hester, of Burkburnett.
He will be greatly missed and was loved by all.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
