Lavon Burge Cornelius, 89, of Amarillo died on Monday, May 14, 2012.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Howard K. Batson, Pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Cornelius was born on November 10, 1922 in Cave City, Arkansas to Mamie and Clarence Burge. Her greatest love in life was to take care of children at the First Baptist Church, cook big meals for her family, and grow beautiful flowers in her yard. She always said she was a farm girl.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Harvey Joe Cornelius, a son, Kennith Wayne Cornelius, a daughter, Nancy Joe Cornelius, her parents, Mamie and Clarence Burge, two sisters, Monteen Frazier and Maurine Silvertooth, and her brother, Noel Burge.
Survivors include her son, David Cornelius and wife Ginger of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Dr. Jana Detrick and husband Chad of Yukon, OK, Melissa Caudle and husband Brad of Conroe, TX, Dr. Dena Cornelius and husband Dr. Lance Trahern of Amarillo, Tammy Warren of Thailand, Jason Cornelius of Pocatello, Amie Johnston and husband David of Chubbuck, Idaho; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
