Lanny Cook, 68, of Vega died on Friday, February 23, 2012.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Vega United Methodist Church with Steve Campbell and David Bonnell officiating. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery at Vega. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Vega.
Lanny was born to Kenneth Marion and Helen Dyck Cook on November 7, 1943 in Amarillo, Texas. He attended Vega High School and West Texas State University. He married Carolyn Jean Chaffin on July 14, 1967. They resided in Amarillo for a few years, but moved back to Vega in 1975. Lanny was a lifelong cattle broker, having worked with family and others in Cook Cattle Company, Satellite Video Auction, Superior Livestock Auction and Cattleman’s Livestock Commission Company.
He also served as mayor of Vega for two years, volunteered with BSA Hospice for more than 25 years, served as chairman of Olivia’s Angels, a hospice support group and worked with Boxwell Brothers in Vega for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathleen; and a daughter, Amy Lynn.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Jean Cook; two daughters, Sandra Denise Elliott and husband Nicholas of Portland, Ore., and Marcia Leigh Cook and fiance Mark Bane of Amarillo; three granddaughters, Iesha, Briana and Alicia; four grandsons, Anthony, Michael, Timothy and William; and a great-grandson, Austin. His surviving family also includes a brother, Melvin and wife Gloria of Enid, Okla.; three sisters, Norma and husband Bill of Dallas, Sharon of Vega, and Marian and husband Walt Horsley of Tempe, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing will be Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Vega.
