L D Jones, 98, of Amarillo died on Monday, November 7, 2011.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Reverend Dale Moreland, Associate Pastor of The Church at Quail Creek, officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
L D Jones was born on July 2, 1913 in McMinnville, Tennessee to Lester Davis and Nancy Barnes Jones. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Mangum, Oklahoma, and then on to Clayton, New Mexico. L D went to school in Clayton and graduated from Clayton High School. He was in one of the first Civilian Conservation Corps. Camps in New Mexico. He later returned to Clayton and began to learn the building trade. He was an independent building contractor in Amarillo and worked many years building homes, offices, restoring, and rehabbing older homes in the general Panhandle area. L D was an avid fisherman, hunter, and bridge player. He was known for his willingness to help others, friend, family or stranger. He often said a stranger was just simply a friend he had yet to meet. He loved helping others and also enjoyed visiting with all his friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Hill Jones, son-in-law, Troy Lee Jordan, grandsons, Larry Dean Jordan and John Michael Jordan, his parents and all of his brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his daughters, Juana Joy Jordan of Galveston, TX, Kay Lackey and husband Bill of Amarillo; a son, Charles Bryan Jones and wife Jun Mei of Saipan; two granddaughters, Lee Ann Jordan Baird and husband Richard of Angleton, TX and Frances Jordan Funkhouser and husband Robert of Okemah, OK; a grandson, Chris Sims of Amarillo; eight great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
