Kenneth Jack Allen – October 20, 2012

Kenneth Jack Allen, 86, formerly of Perryton, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, in Amarillo.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, in First United Methodist Church in Perryton. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Kenneth was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Carl Community in Harmon County, Okla., to David Jack and Nellie Wylie Allen. He graduated in 1944 from Erick Oklahoma High School.
He was a graduate of the Harvard Business School Executive Education Program of the Agribusiness Seminar in 1979; this was composed of business and government leaders from all over the world.
His World War II military service started in the infantry then was transferred to the paratroopers, where he served in the South Pacific and the Marianas Islands, primarily Saipan and Iwo Jima. He was an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Kenneth returned from military to join his family in Perryton. After some farm, ranch and construction work, he began to work for the Perryton Equity Exchange in early 1947. He worked for them for six years and then moved to Wakita, Okla., to manage the Farmers Coop for five years. In 1959, Kenneth came back to PEE to take over the role as GM and CEO, where he served until his retirement in 1989 after 35 years.
After his retirement from PEE, he expanded his farming and ranching operations in the Ochiltree and Dallam counties in Texas, as well as Harmon and Beckam counties of Oklahoma. He retired from the farming and ranching operations in 2011 and moved to Amarillo to be closer to family.
Kenneth also served on numerous boards in Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. He retired from Farmland Industries Board of Directors in 1991 after serving 12 years on the board, the last five years as chairman. He also served on the USDA Advisory Board of Agriculture, appointed by President Reagan and continued service under President Bush.
Kenneth married Helen Marie Griffin on May 31, 1947, in Wellington. Together they have two daughters. He was a very loving and involved grandfather and uncle, coaching and sponsoring sports teams, supporting FFA and many other numerous activities that all the kids were involved with.
Kenneth was a member in good standing for more than 50 years with the Masonic Lodge 910 of Perryton. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. During his life, he served on numerous committees and board in support of his community and his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wayne Conner Allen, a daughter, Susan Anita Allen-Aguilar; and a grandson, Jonathan Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; a daughter, Polly Allen Hill of Amarillo; a brother, Bobby Scott Allen of Vinson, Okla., a sister, Dena Beth Allen Smith of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Andrew Allen-Aguilar and Brian Allen-Aguilar of Austin and Kristin Hill of Lubbock; a great-grandson, Jackson Caddell; numerous nieces and nephews who he was always very proud of and very involved with, including a special nephew, Douglas Kenneth Allen.
The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, 321 S Baylor St., Perryton, TX 79070; or YMCA, 1201 S.W. 15th Ave., Perryton, TX 79070.
