Kathryn Doak Watson, 89, of Claude died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, in Claude United Methodist Church with the Rev. Luke Tolbert, Mrs. Watson’s grandson, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Claude.
Kathryn, was born May 6, 1922, in Amarillo to Hugh and Mildred Doak of Claude. She graduated as valedictorian of Claude High School in 1939 and in 1944 received a bachelor of science in business administration with highest honor from the University of Texas, where she was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma national business honor society.
Kathryn was married for 55 years to Wade Collins Watson, who preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 2006.  She was employed by Skelley Oil Co. in Tulsa, Okla., for several years following college graduation, the Amarillo Air Force Base from 1964 to 1968, and the Claude Independent School District from 1968 to 1973, and thereafter she worked in partnership with her husband in their farming and cattle business.
Kathryn was a lifelong member of Claude United Methodist Church, where she filled many roles including church pianist and was very active in the United Methodist Women. She led a life committed to Christian service and devotion to her family. For decades, she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and filled many other roles in charitable organizations.
For the last two years, she resided in an assisted living center near her daughter where her family could care for her, but flew the Texas flag proudly in her apartment and remained a fervent Longhorn fan.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents; and her sister, Margaret Elliot.
Survivors include her daughter, Margo Tolbert and husband Sam of Greenwood, S.C.; three grandchildren, the Rev. Luke Tolbert and wife Patty of Camden, S.C., Jonathan Tolbert and Allison Tolbert; and two great-grandchildren, Anna Kate Tolbert and Caroline Tolbert.
The family suggests memorials be to Claude United Methodist Church, 400 Trice St., Claude, TX 79019; Claude Volunteer Fire Department, EMS, P.O. Box 231, Claude, TX 79019;
or a favorite charity.
Viewing will be from noon to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers Claude Chapel.
