Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Stephen Gaines officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Kathaleta was born July 31, 1910, in Hereford to Daniel Webster and Emmagene Cathey Hawkins. She moved to Amarillo after graduating from high school in Hereford.
She met and married Dalioun Barry Wheeless on Aug. 5, 1939, in Amarillo. After short stays in Longview and Oklahoma City, they moved back to Amarillo, where they lived for more than 60 years.
Kathaleta was active in the San Jacinto Methodist Church (later the Covenant Fellowship). She spent many happy years traveling with Barry around the United States in their Streamline trailer. They first visited the Pagosa Springs area in 1939, and continued to come to the Bruce Spruce Ranch near Pagosa for as long as they were able.
In 2008, she moved to Pagosa Springs to be close to her son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Treva Wheeless. She lived in Pagosa until her death.
The last years of her life she lived in loving care at Al’s Place. It was a perfect home for her.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend as she shared her love, determination, caring for others and her wisdom. Kathaleta maintained her wit, sense of humor, and positive attitude until the end of her blessed life. She truly was a positive influence on all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mike, in 1987; a grandson, Paul Wheeless, in 1991; and her husband, D.B., in 2001.
Survivors include her children, Daleta Jane Reno and Barry Don Wheeless; her grandchildren, Christopher Reno, Scott Reno, Whitney Wheeless, Julie Wheeless and Lori Wheeless; and her great-grandchildren, Christian Reno, Jasmine Reno, Max Reno, Eliot Rowe and Miles Rowe.
The family suggests memorials be to Covenant Fellowship Church, 1739 S. Avondale St., Amarillo, TX 79106.
