Kassandra Ane Garrett died unexpectedly on March 5, 2021, in Ruther Glen, VA at the age of 47.

Kassandra Ane Garrett is survived by her husband, Shawn Garrett; children, Garrett Keaton Hodges engaged to Janine Johnson, Kaitlyn Rae Cothren-Young, son-in-law Stephen Young, and Michael Everett Willis; dad, David Thompson; meme, Zella Akin; papa, Carl Jones; sisters, Vanessa Hodges, and Kindra Fletcher; and nieces and nephews, Austin Hodges, MacKenzie Hodges, and Gary Fletcher Jr.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Drenda Thompson; her father, Henry Hodges; her 1st husband, Brian Black; grandfather, Joseph Eldon Waugh; and aunts and uncles, Joyce Brown, Lucy Vadie Roden, Darvin Lawrence, Guy Travis Roden, and Lulu Ver Roden.

Kassandra Ane Garrett was born on October 10, 1973, in Lubbock, Texas to Drenda Thompson and Henry Hodges and later Stepdad David Thompson. She graduated from Randall High School in 1989, 2 years early. Kassandra worked as a Patient Care Tech in the hospital at 16 prior to going to Randall County Police academy. She later went to school to become a Paramedic and worked at BSA hospital in Amarillo. She then transitioned into an LVN and went to Amarillo College to complete her Associate degree in nursing. Kassandra also completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and was in the process of completing her Master’s Degree. Over the years she had many accomplishments including being in charge of nursing in her units, working in the Emergency Dept, ICU, NICU, OR, Triage, and orthopedics.  She worked as a volunteer with the American Red Cross as a nurse so that she could help others dealing with tragedies in their life. Her biggest accomplishment was being a mother. She is proud she was of them and their accomplishments as adults.

She married Shawn Garrett, August 8, 2016. They resided in Ruther Glen, Virginia and she continued working as a nurse at Spotsylvania Regional Hospital.

Kassandra was accomplished as a Registered Nurse and often volunteered, helping others in their journeys learning to be nurses and paramedics. She was always willing to help others in their growth in the medical profession and growth in the lord. She would donate to the USO, adopted a platoon in a combat zone, and donated care packages to those overseas.

She was an individual who loved medicine and teaching others, she was very passionate about helping others. She was an active and dedicated member of the Trinity Fellowship Church and often volunteered.

The viewing will be Friday, March 19, 2021, starting at 6 o’clock, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at 2 o’clock, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, graveside service to follow at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon, Texas. Pastor Spike Maldonado will officiate the ceremony in honor of Kassandra. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kassandra’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude’s Hospital or American Red Cross.

  1. Our deepest sympathy to the husband, family, and friends of Kassandra. She was always so sweet anytime she called or came to the pharmacy. We will miss seeing her smiling face here at Walgreens in Bowling Green, VA.

  2. Kassandra was my best friend and we were like sisters. I was looking forward to her moving back home so we could have our girls day. My heart hurts for Shawn and the rest of the family but I know we have a beautiful Angel watching over us all. I miss her so much and know one day we will see her again.
