Juan was born November 18, 1950 in Ed Couch, Texas to Jesus and Refugia Barrera. Family was most important to Juan. He did what was necessary to make sure his family was taken care of. Juan was a classic car enthusiast and could spot a car out in a field while driving down the highway and he could tell you the Make, Model and year. He loved taking spontaneous road trips and could easily end up spending the night in a random town after driving all day. He loved spending time with family having dinners or Bar-B-Ques and spending weekends at the lake. He enjoyed travelling with his wife, Lori, his children, and family. He loved cooking Saturday breakfast for everyone. He loved spending time with his grandkids and attending family events with them. Family was by far the biggest joy in his life. Juan will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Refugia Barrera; his son, Juan Barrera, Jr.; his brothers, George Barrera, Pete Barrera, Jessie “Chuy” Barrera, Fidel Barrera and Ramon Barrera; sisters, Estella Barrera, Lupe Saenz and Mikaela Cansino; and brother-in-law, Curtis Jackson.

Juan is survived by his wife Lori; two daughters Estefana “Stephanie” Perez and husband Gabe and Alice Jimenez, of Amarillo; one son, Matthew Barrera, of Amarillo; Brothers, Joe Barrera and wife Frances of Plainview, TX and Jose “Chema” Barrera and wife Elvia of California; sisters, Estefana Martinez and husband Max and Olga Barrera, all of Amarillo, Dora  Mireles and husband Rudy of Amherst, TX, Florinda Jackson, Olivia Barrera and husband Jamie Reyes, Connie Paik and husband Tom and Rosalinda Alvarez and husband Samuel,  all of California. Juan had seven grandchildren, Andrew Jimenez, Isaac Jimenez, Gabriela Perez, Anthony Perez, Adrian Barrera, Isabella Barrera and Fabian Barrera; and five great-grandchildren, Julian, Jayden and Amaya Jimenez and Isaiah and Jasmine Barrera; and his ex-wife, Lucia Flores. He had many, many nieces and nephews and extended family.

We will all miss him so very much. We were blessed to have him in our lives. Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Juan knew what a great man he was and loved him very much.
