Joyce Marie Christy Raymond – March 27, 2012


Joyce Marie Christy Raymond, 80, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Chaparral Hills Baptist Church on Thursday, March 29, 2012 with Rev. Alan Burkhalter officiating.  David and Rick Raymond will deliver the eulogy.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Raymond, a native of Amarillo was born on October 18, 1931 to Floyd and Alice Christy of Amarillo.  She attended Amarillo High School before marrying Richard (Dick) Raymond in Florence, Arizona on January 16, 1948.  She was a wife and homemaker.  She was a member of Chaparral Hills Baptist Church, the Ladies Sunday school class, a lifetime member of the North Amarillo Lions Club, Lion of the Year in 1991 as a member of the Amarillo Centennial Lions Club, a Lynn Cherry Award winner in 1996 and a Jack Wiech Fellow for her service to the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville.
From 1979 through 1996, Joyce served as the Executive Director of the Lions High Plains Eye Bank.  This position allowed her to interact with donor families, eye tissue recipients, physicians and nurses involved in collecting, transporting, and delivery of the tissue to physicians.  She felt that her work with Lions and the Eye Bank fulfilled her mission in life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Raymond, her parents, Floyd and Alice Christy and her daughter Nancy Jones.
She is survived by a brother, James Christy and his wife Connie of Lubbock, by her children, Rick Raymond and his wife Pam of Amarillo, Chris Cooper and her husband Noah of Amarillo and David Raymond and his wife Pam of Lafayette, Louisiana.  She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Muniz and his nursing staff, the staff of Interim Hospice and the Chaparral Hills Ladies Sunday School class led by Lynda Humphrey for all the loving support during these last months.
