John Wilson Acrie, Jr., 67, of Amarillo, died Friday, June 17, 2011.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Nick Garner, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
John was born on April 23, 1944 in Mt. Pleasant, PA to John, Sr. and Edna Mae Acrie. Following his graduation from Sewickley High School in 1961, he joined the U.S. Army and served two years as a missile technician. After discharge he moved to Dodge City and attended Dodge City Junior College.
He married Karen Heckert on April 23, 1970 at the First Presbyterian Church in Dodge City, KS. They moved to and lived in Pennsylvania for the next twenty-two years and from there transferred to Bay City, TX where he worked at a South Texas power plant until his retirement in 1993. They moved to Amarillo in 2007.
John was a water color and scrimshaw artist and a computer enthusiast.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorraine and Charlene; and brother, Charles.
Survivors include his wife of forty-one years, Karen Acrie, of the home; sons, John Acrie, III and wife Heather of San Diego, CA and Carl Acrie of Hunlock Creek, PA; his sisters and brothers, all of Pittsburgh, PA, Mary Gray, Marion Acrie, Eddie Acrie, Kenneth Acrie, Nina Hogan, James Acrie, and Billye Acrie; and his six grandchildren, Ashley Marie Acrie and Derek Joseph Acrie, both of Los Angeles, CA, and Sarah Geleco, Emily Geleco, Mathew Geleco and Kate Lyn Acrie, all of Shickshinny, PA.
