John Souktakith, 91, of Amarillo died on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Hospice Care of the Southwest with his family by his side.
Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Mr. Souktakith was born on May 20, 1920 in Thakek, Laos. He was a very prominent member of the Laos community. John was a police officer of Laos and an information specialist in communist infiltration. He resided in Laos until Vietnam fell. He then fled the country in 1979 to Billings, Montana sponsored by the kindness of the Lutheran Church.
Mr. Souktakith was a husband to Buahane Souktakith. He was the father of 6 children. After the loss of his wife he moved to Honolulu, Hawaii to be with his eldest son, Jim. He spent the remainder of his life surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. John settled in Amarillo, living with his 4th child, Sayanh.
He is survived by his 6 children, 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2012, at the funeral home.
