John Norris Barrett – October 30, 2011

John Norris Barrett, 67, of Amarillo, died Sunday, October 30, 2011.
A private burial will be held.
John was born February 10, 1944 in Gallup, New Mexico to James and Lillian Barrett.  He was a Native American, Eastern Band Cherokee from North Carolina.  He married Glenda Mannin on July 8, 1994 in Amarillo.  John worked as a service technician at Tascosa/Canon U.S.A. Office Machines.
He was preceded in death by one daughter.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Barrett, of Amarillo; a son; a stepson; a stepdaughter; and ten grandchildren
The family suggest memorial donations in his honor to the BSA Hospice Tree of Life, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105.

  1. I want to THANK ALL THOSE WHO knew him, Loved him and were able to be touched and Blessed having him in your lives!! One of my favorite memories growing up learning the Native American Culture and being part of the Kwadhi Dancers. Now he is at peace among the Cherokee people, where I know that the first one to greet him home; is Royce lynn, his daughter, my sister!!

  2. We will very truly miss John! It is sad that he didn’t get to come out here one more time but we really enjoyed and cherish the moments that we did have with him. Me and dad were glad we came to visit with ya’ll and we really did like Amarillo. He is in heaven now having a jolly old time with Lahoma, Katie, and his mom and daughter. We will miss him dearly and we hope to see you, Cheyanne, and the rest of the gang out here soon!!

  3. I enjoyed working with John when he and his sons were active in the Kwahadi Dancers here in Amarillo. He was always willing to serve youth and share his native heritage. We are sorry for your loss.John and Deborah Stich.

  5. I enjoyed working with John for the past 6 years. From repairing copiers together, to learning in his classes, to solving the world’s problems each morning over coffee. John was a good friend and a joy to be with. He will be greatly missed. Our prayers go out to you Glenda, and all of the family. Love, Big John.
