John K. “Porkchop” Granberg

John K “PorkChop” Granberg, 91, of Amarillo, TX died at home Saturday, March 9, 2019.

Born in San Antonio, TX on December 26, 1927 to Karl and Verna Granberg. After Army service, he worked at Medina Base in San Antonio, TX until he moved his family to Amarillo, TX in 1966. After 30 years, John retired from Pantex in 1996. He also worked part time at Hawbaker’s Auction.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother Karl Jr and twin sister Sigrid.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Dian, daughter Kristina of Summerville, SC , son John and wife Lisa of Dallas, TX, son Kurt and wife Emily of Terrell, TX,  6 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial gathering will be held Friday, March 22, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favored charity.

  1. I knew John as “Pork Chop” for 30 of my 31+yrs at Pantex and there was no one better than John. Worked with him many days and nights. Told me stories about he got the name Pork Chop. I didn’t know his real name for a quite a while. Very sad to get this news of his passing. Gog bless his loving and our prayers are for them.

  2. My condolences to the family. I was saddened to hear about John. He will forever be in our memories. Seems a long time ago, that I was his and Dian’s babysitter.

  3. I worked with John for several years at Pantex. He was a hoot to work with, always had a story to tell, and had that perfect mustache. I was sorry to read of his passing.
