John "Jack" R. Owens, Jr. – September 4, 2011

John “Jack” R. Owens, Jr., 78, of Amarillo, died Sunday, September 4, 2011.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at First Christian Church – Robison Chapel with Rev. Barry Loving officiating.  Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Owens was born August 13, 1933 in Dallas, Texas to John and Hazel Owens.  He worked for the Texas Highway Department for forty-one years as an Engineering Assistant.  Mr. Owens enjoyed square dancing with the Pioneer Promenaders and loved blue grass music.  He was a craftsman and loved spending time in the mountains.
He was preceded in death by parents, and his wife, Gaylene.
Survivors include daughter, Janet Hoskins, and sons, Scott Owens, and Dan Owens and his wife Jana, all of Amarillo; stepdaughter, Tina Patterson of Joplin, MO; stepson, Donny Wynn of Jackson, MS; sisters, Sally Gazzaway of Amarillo and Patsy Devin of Tulia, TX; and grandchildren, Katherine, Nolan, Hunter, Sean, Lauren, Katie, Jarie, Amanda, J.T., Lanell, Easton and Cayden.

  1. Jack was a wonderful neighbor that always had a smile for me. Such a kind man, he will be missed by many. My condolences to his family and may God bless them in their time of grief.

  2. We are realy sorry about Jack. The last time we saw him was at the Bluegrass dinner last Dec.
    We enjoyed him those years as a neighbor.
