Joe Turner – December 11, 2012


Joe Turner, 86, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, in Alanreed Cemetery in Alanreed.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Turner was born May 5, 1926, in McLean to Mary Katherine and Amos Ed Turner.  He grew up in McLean and graduated from Alanreed High School.  He served in the Army during World War II, entering on Aug. 3, 1944.  He was a radio repairman of aircraft equipment with the rank of corporal in the 1521st Army Air Force Base Unit.  He received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, and one overseas service bar.  He received an honorable discharge on Aug. 6, 1946.
Mr. Turner married Eulema Blanche Lively on Nov. 22, 1957, in Amarillo.  They made their home in Amarillo and raised two children.  He spent most of his working career at Pantex.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Amarillo.  Throughout his life, he was devoted to his family and friends.  He was a thoughtful and generous man, always willing to help someone in need.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, James Allan Turner; his parents; two sisters, Maryland and Beatrice; and five brothers, Lonzo, Bill, Rush, Ed and Ivan.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Grant Johnson and husband Johnny of Stillwater, Okla.; a daughter-in-law, Robin Broxterman and husband Dean of Ft. Worth; a grandson, Ryan James Turner and wife Lori and their children; a granddaughter, Katherine Leigh Kinder and husband Kevin of Ft. Worth and their child; a brother, Vernon of Amarillo; a sister, Auna Barnes of Ft. Worth; and numerous other family and friends.
The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
