Joe Tom Glover – January 13, 2013

Joe Tom Glover, Jr. 94, of Amarillo died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, in First Presbyterian Church with Paul Frederiksen officiating. Private entombment will be in Llano Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Joe was born July 30, 1918, in Kirkland to Frankie and Joe Tom Glover, Sr. He moved to Amarillo in 1922 and attended Wolflin Grade School. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon and other leadership positions.
He graduated in 1935 from Amarillo High School and attended Kemper Military School in 1936-1937. He graduated in 1940 from Oklahoma University with a geological engineering degree and continued to be a lifelong fan of the Oklahoma Sooners.
In 1940, he attended engineering school in Rantoul, Ill., where he became an officer in the U.S. Air Force, assigned to the 27th Fighter-Bomber Group. He served in Northern Africa, Italy and Germany during World War II.
Joe began his working career at Stanlin Oil Co. After serving in WWII, a desk job did not suit him and he began his life as an entrepreneur. He owned the first laundromat in Amarillo. The he became a general contractor, which he did for the remainder of his work career.
He married Marilyn Shultz in 1947. She died in 1975. He married Lily Sewell who died in 1980. He had several lifelong friends.
Survivors include two children, Joe “Jody” Tom Glover, III and Julie Glover McCracken and husband Dan; three grandchildren, Bryan McCracken and wife Marjorie, Molly McCracken White and husband Ross and Katy McCracken Pair and husband Steve; and four great-grandchildren, Ian and Ben McCracken and Olivia and Josephine White.
The family suggests memorials be to Presbyterian Children’s Home – TLC Endowment Fund, 3400 S. Bowie, Amarillo, TX 79109; Hospice Care of the Southwest, 6600 Killgore Dr., Amarillo, TX 79106.
