Jim Melton, 79, of Amarillo and Granbury, TX, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 12, 2019.

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at the Central Church of Christ Chapel, with Jaron Barrington officiating. Private burial will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Jim was born August 6, 1940, to Ray and Sylvia Melton, in Olton, Texas. The family moved to Amarillo, TX in January of 1942. Jim was a proud Palo Duro Don, class of ’59. He was inducted into the Palo Duro High School Hall of Fame in 1984. He played football at Cisco J.C. and attended Amarillo College as well.

Jim worked for First National Bank of Amarillo for 20 years. The last 5 years he was President of their subsidiary, First Bank of Amarillo. He went to work as a State Farm Agent in 1985, where he retired 20 years later in 2005.

Jim was married to the love of his life, Barbara, for 57 years. Upon retirement, they moved to Granbury, TX to be closer to their grandchildren.

Jim lived his life focused on faith, and love of his family, and friends. He was a man of impeccable character and valued integrity above all. He helped more people than we will ever know, and he will truly be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara Melton; sister, Vianna Pace; brother, Woody Melton; daughter, Jamye McRae and husband Ray; son, Marty and wife Sharon; grandchildren, Boyd, Brock, and Bennett Melton, Jordyn Murphy, Jaxon Kelley, Hayden McRae, and Magen Burris; great-grandchildren, Hadley Murphy, and Berkeley Burris.

The family will receive friends at Boxwell Brothers from 5-6:30 P.M., on Monday, September 16, 2019.

    I remember being together from time to time years ago when we were all young.

    In case you are wondering, I am the son of Pat (Frye) and Maurice Joyce.

  2. Jim was a bright light in a dim world. His joy was contagious and Bill and I extend our deepest heartfelt sympathy. Barbara you are a strong woman and I know you’ll be okay but lean on your friends and family a lot for awhile. If we can do anything please ask

  3. Dear Barbara and family, My heart goes out to you in your loss of Jim. You will be in my thoughts and prayers for comfort, peace and strength in the coming days. I know the hurt and loss that you feel, our Lord will see you through.

  4. Barbara, Jamye and Marty…….may God give you comfort and peace as you prepare to say goodbye to Jim tomorrow, but know that you will be reunited again in Heaven and it will be a wonderful reunion.

  6. My mentor. I thank God for Jim’s life and his influence on me, both personally and professionally. It is an honor and a privilege to have succeeded him in his State Farm agency. Big shoes to fill, which I likely didn’t, but a wonderful legacy. Thank you Jesus for putting Jim Melton in my life.

  7. I went to work for Jim in 1984 and he became one of the best friends I will ever have. He made sure we took good care of our customers, and he always took good care of his employees. When I think of Jim, the first thing I think of is love. Jim loved his family, and they love him! He loved his friends, and was always there for them. I feel blessed to be counted as one of his friends. He loved God which made him able to love everyone else so well. I know that Jim has heard “well done good and faithful servant”.

  8. Sorry to hear about your loss. Mr. Jim will always be remembered by Raymond and I. Mr Jim was always a joy to visit with when Raymond and Jackson were playing ball together. Our deepest sympathy go out to Jamie, Jackson and Mammy.
