Jeff Tankersley – June 10, 2012


Jeff Tankersley, 48, of Amarillo, died Sunday, June 10, 2012.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at First Baptist Church with Dr. W. Winfred Moore, grandfather-in-law, and Dr. Howard K. Batson, senior pastor, officiating.    Burial will be private.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Tankersley was born Dec. 1, 1963, in Clovis, NM to Joel and Sallye Tankersley.  He was raised in Ralls, TX where he graduated high school.  Jeff earned his BBA in finance from Angelo State University and his law degree from Texas Tech University.  He married Amy Preston on Aug. 31, 1996, in Amarillo.
Jeff was a longtime member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church and the original volunteer coordinator of Upward Basketball.  He served on the board of Ronald McDonald House and American Cancer Society.  Jeff was an attorney and partner of the Sprouse Shrader Smith law firm.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, James P. “Jim” Preston.
Survivors include his wife, Amy Tankersley, of the home; a daughter, Caroline Tankersley, of the home; a son, Beck Tankersley, of the home; parents, Joel and Sallye Tankersley of Lubbock; a brother, Dean Tankersley and wife Cindy of Singapore; a sister, Krista Tankersley of Dallas; his mother-in-law, Anne Preston, of Amarillo; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James Preston, wife Stacey and their children, J.P. and Becca Preston, all of Mandeville, Louisiana; a nephew Charles Vannoy of Toronto, Canada; a niece, Tayler Claudio of Lubbock; and grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. W. Winfred Moore of Amarillo.
The family suggests memorials to Ronald McDonald House, 1501 Streit Drive, Amarillo, TX 79106-1730; American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 50433, Amarillo, TX 79159; or a favorite charity.
