Jeannine Walker Nicholson – December 30, 2014

Jeannine Walker Nicholson, 81, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014.Nicholson Obit Pic
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2015, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Deckard, associate pastor, Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating.  Interment will be private.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Born in Kingsport, Tennessee, her family moved to Oklahoma where she followed the lifestyle of a Southern Baptist Minister’s daughter.  She graduated from the Grove, Okla. High School in 1950, attended Northwestern Okla. St. Univ., and East Central St. Univ., Ada, Okla. receiving her BA in English and Business.

She married Max G. Nicholson, June 6, 1954, in Duncan Okla. and settled in Amarillo in 1956. She was first employed as a legal secretary for the Underwood Law firm while attending WTSU for her teaching degree.  Mrs. Nicholson retired from the Amarillo ISD where she spent her career as a Special Education teacher. She was a member of several Square Dance Clubs: Hi- Plains Promenaders, Curley-Qs and Whirley Birds.

Her husband, Max preceded her in death in 2006.
She is survived by her children, David, and Tim and his wife Karlie, all of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Tori and Lee of Amarillo, and Glen and his fiancé, Rebecca of Felton, Delaware;  and, her sister, Juanita Nye of Weatherford, Okla.

  1. I was so sorry to hear about Jeannine. She sat with my mother, Dolores Gear for meals at The Clairmont.
    It is truly sad that two ladies passed so close!
    Another table mate, Dorene, was very ill also! I have not heard how she is now.
    I am thankful I got to visit with Jeannine while she was at The Clairmont. She was my moms friend.

  2. I was principal at Landergin School in 1967-1969. Jeannine was a teacher of the deaf. I enjoyed her positive attitude and sense of humor. She was very dedicated.
