Janice Simons Blandford

Janice Simons Blandford, 70, of Amarillo, TX died Saturday, October 12, 2019.

Services will be on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., at Boxwell Brothers Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Private burial will be at Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Janice was born on May 20, 1949, in Amarillo, Texas.  She graduated from Tascosa High School in 1968.  She worked for Affiliated foods for 29 years until her retirement in 2016.

Janice was an avid reader.  She read so many books that she had a notebook with an alphabetized lists of novels she had read so she could keep track.  She loved to travel.

She adored Rhett and was very proud of him.  She was “Nana” to her three grandsons.  She loved them dearly and was pleased with their accomplishments.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Agnes Graham; and her father, Jim Simons.

She has missed her daddy terribly since the day he left this Earth.  What a reunion they are having now that they are together.

Survivors include her only son, Rhett Blandford and wife Tyra, of Amarillo; three grandsons, Braxton, Dalton, and Braylon Blandford, all of Amarillo; two brothers, Jay Simons and wife Claire, of San Angelo, and Bill Blackwell and wife Elise, of North Carolina; and her dearest friends, Gary Griffith and Jackie Frost.

  1. Rhett, Tyra and family — I will remember Janice’s smile and still wonder how all that personality fit in her petite frame. It was always fun to have the Simons and Blanfords come down to Grandmother’s house in Memphis at Christmas or Thanksgiving. The smiles were big and the stories were always so good.

  3. I remember Janice and her sweet dad picking me up in his Thunderbird to go to a movie or to spend time at their house. Janice was a great friend and I have wonderful memories of her and her family. Praying for peace and comfort today and the days to come. Thankful that Janice is healed and at peace.

  4. Janice lived across the street from me on Julie Dr. We would play Barbie for hours and her friendship is a very dear memory. Sincere condolences to the family 🙏
