James "Pat" Christal – March 22, 2012

James “Pat” Christal, 86, of Amarillo, died Thursday, March 22, 2012.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 26, 2012 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Roy Wheeler and Bob Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Christal was born in Childress on March 18, 1926 to Joel and Cumi Christal. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He also served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Christal married Yvonne Olds on July 23, 1950 in Sudan, TX. Mr. Christal retired in 1987 after working as Director of Public Works for the City of Amarillo for 34 years.
He was a member of Hillside Christian Church for more than 50 years, North Amarillo Kiwanis for more than 25 years, and volunteered for over 25 years for Meals on Wheels. Mr. Christal was awarded the Public Works Man of the Year (1985) by the Texas Chapter American Public Works Association and was named Outstanding Engineer (1973) by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers.
The family would like to give a special thanks to The Cottages for all of their compassion and care over the last 2 1/2 years.
Survivors include his wife Yvonne Christal of Amarillo; two sons, Mike Christal and wife Jill of Baton Rouge, LA, and Joel Christal and wife Rogane of Katy, TX; a daughter, Claire Christal of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Candace Reynolds of New Braunfels, Courtney Van Delden of Boerne, Jared Christal of Frisco, Hailee Davis of Midland and Chase Christal of Lubbock; and two great-grandchildren, Cali Reynolds and Cole Reynolds.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial donations be to Amarillo Alzheimer’s Academy in care of Geriatrics Division, 1400 S. Coulter #2700, Amarillo, TX 79106; or to Amarillo Meals on Wheels, 219 W. 7th, Amarillo, TX 79101
