James P. “Jim” Preston, 72, of Amarillo, died Monday, June 4, 2012.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, in First Baptist Church with Jim’s father-in-law, Dr. W. Winfred Moore, and Dr. Howard K. Batson, pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Jim was born Feb. 4, 1940 in Queens, NY to James and Margaret Preston. He married Anne Moore on Aug. 31, 1963 in Amarillo at First Baptist Church. He retired from the City of Amarillo after almost 20 years of service. Jim loved the Lord and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where he was especially active in the Clements prison ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jane.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Preston, of the home; a daughter, Amy Tankersley and husband Jeff of Amarillo; a son, James Preston and wife Stacey of Mandeville, LA; four grandchildren, Caroline and Beck Tankersley and J.P. and Becca Preston; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. W. Winfred Moore of Amarillo; and a sister, Peggy Adams of Petersburg, VA.
