James Marshall “Jim” Shelton, 77, of Amarillo, TX died Monday, March 9, 2020.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 12, 2020, at North Amarillo Church of Christ with Glen Walton, Charles Yeager, and Cecil Burch officiating.  Burial will be private.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Jim was born September 8, 1942, to Cecil and Polly Shelton.  He graduated from Palo Duro High School, attended Lubbock Christian College on a full athletic scholarship, earned his Associate Degree from Amarillo College, and then attended West Texas A&M

Jim’s six-year career in the Army placed him in Korea and Vietnam.  He played on the All Army Basketball Team and served in Army Special Forces during the Vietnam Conflict.

Jim married Cyndy Jackson on April 23, 1970, in Amarillo, TX.

He loved horses and his dogs, Blondie and Skeeter.

Jim owned Jim’s Golf Stix for years, and managed Heath Furniture.  Jim also served as a Church of Christ minister in Shallowater for four years where he was known as a great singer, and a member of the group “Just Us.”

Survivors include his wife, Cyndy Shelton, of Amarillo, TX; a daughter, Carrie Hands and husband, Dr. Martin Hands, of Amarillo, TX; a sister, Velma Anderson and husband Frank, of Angleton, TX; a grandson, James Martin Hands, our special grandboy.

  3. We offer our condolences to Cindy, Carrie and the rest of the family. Jim will surely be missed. He was truly an inspiration to many who knew him. Gone to be with the Lord who knows His faithful servants.

  4. Rest in peace, sir. Thank you for your military career. Thank you for showing who Jesus is in your and your wife’s lives. You will be missed, sir. Your wife, daughter, and husband and the grandson will carry on your devotion to your Lord in their own lives. We remember your songs, “Swing Low”, and “This World Is Not My Home.”
