James “Jimmy” G. Smith, Sr., 63, of Amarillo, died Monday, November 14, 2011.
Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 18, 2011 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Rev. Troy Bohn officiating. Burial will be in the Field of Valor at Llano Cemetery with military rites by DAV Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Mr. Smith was the oldest son of seven children and was born on May 4, 1948 in Amarillo, Texas.
He served proudly in the U.S. Army for two years stationed in Vietnam. He was in the 44th Med and an E-4. He owned and operated a mechanic shop in Amarillo for forty-five years. He also ran a car lot for many of those years.
In his early years, he sponsored racecar drivers and raced himself.
He was preceded in death by a brother, J.D. Smith; his mother, Occie Lee Daniels; his dad, Charles Smith; his closed and loved stepfather, Corney Daniels; and a nephew, Jerry Deaver, Jr.
Survivors include his best friend and ex-wife, Brenda Tolbert; a son, James “Bubba” Smith, Jr.; two daughters, Amy Malleck and husband Leonard, and Rhonda Malleck and husband Donnie; four sisters, Fay Patterson and husband Pat, May Elmore and husband Earl, Sandra Snelson and friend Bob Dawkins, and Lillian Eherthing and husband Tracy; two brothers, Parnell “JoJo” Daniels and David “Duby” Daniels; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many favorite and loved nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home and will be at 3614 S.E. 30th Ave. in Amarillo.
