James (Jas) Darrell Atkinson

James (Jas) Darrell Atkinson, 72, of Channing, TX passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020, peacefully at his home. Cremation and arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo, TX.

Jas was born on February 8, 1948, in Fullerton, California to Walter and Martha Shepard. He grew up on a farm in Arkansas and later moved back to California. Jas worked on several ranches in California, Montana and Texas. He went to saddle making school in Amarillo and continued his work in ranching and leather making. He was a true cowboy and loved everything about the cowboy way of life. Jas was a military veteran and served in the United States Navy. Jas was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Jas was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers, Ray and Lee.

He is survived by his mother, Martha of Arkansas; a son, James Clements and wife Misty of Canyon; sister-in-law, Judy Atkinson; nephew, Billy of Missouri; and 3 special grandson’s, Kolton, Derrek and Tanner.

At Jas’s request, no service is planned. Ashes will be spread over the old Box T Ranch in Lipscomb County, TX at a later date.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Saddle Mountain Cowboy Church PO Box 96 Channing, TX 79018.
