James D. Terrell, 83, of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 3, 2012.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2012, in First Christian Church with Rev. Barry Loving and Regi Fowler officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Terrell was born July 23, 1928 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to George and Zenna Terrell. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1946, where he was captain of the Harvesters football team, and numerous other school activities. He attended Oklahoma State University on a football scholarship, where he founded the first radio station. After graduating, Mr. Terrell was a news anchor and radio announcer in Pampa, Lubbock and Amarillo. He married Faye Burns on March 19, 1955 in Pampa. They moved to Amarillo in 1966. He had a career as regional information officer for the Bureau of Reclamation for the Department of Interior for twenty-two years. Mr. Terrell was a member of First Christian Church and served as Elder Emeritus.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Edmund Terrell; a daughter, Shannon Titus; three sisters, Dorothy McConnell, Tess Wilkinson and Marie Jones; and two brothers, Warren Terrell and Ed Terrell.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Faye Terrell of Amarillo; a son, Shaun Terrell of Snyder; and four grandchildren, Stan Titus, Katherine Titus, Caroline Titus of Amarillo and Teagan Terrell of Snyder.
The family suggests memorials be to the American Heart Association, 6605 I-40 West, Building A6, Amarillo, TX 79106, or to a favorite charity.
