Hugh V. Potts, Jr. was born August 31, 1939 in Amarillo, Texas and passed away peacefully on May 26, 2020 at his home in Amarillo.

Services will be private.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Hugh attended Amarillo High School.  He attended barber school at the age of 15 while attending high school.  He married Linda Fannin in 1958.  Shortly after he opened a barber shop with his brother called Sir Majestic.  Following his hair cutting years Hugh got into the used car business.  He owned Hugh Potts Autos for the remainder of his years.  In addition to owning and operating his car lot he also worked for Thrifty Nickel for almost a decade.  Having developed a love of wrestling in high school, Hugh co-founded the Panhandle Amateur Wrestling Association (PAWA).  Hugh, Johnny Cobb, and many other Panhandle parents devoted lots of time and energy to the PAWA.  When Hugh wasn’t working, he enjoyed being outdoors.  In his younger years he rode dirt bikes. He was a certified scuba diver.  He spent countless weekends and holidays at the lake skiing, fishing and diving with his wife, family and small group of lifelong friends.

Hugh was preceded in death by his father, Hugh V. Potts, Sr., mother, Mildred Potts Stowers, a brother, Bo Potts and a son, Hugh V. Potts, III.

Hugh is survived by his wife of 62 years, Linda Potts; a son, Randall Potts and wife, Elizabeth; five grandchildren, Angela Harris and husband, Cody, Lisa Norris Pearson and husband, Kelley, Matthew Norris, Aaron Potts, and Austin Potts; four great-grandchildren, Baylee Hodge, Tate Harris, Paxton Harris and Anastasia Pearson;  three nephews, Darin Potts, Dallas Potts and Jordan Heetland.

Hugh was a one-of-a-kind, outspoken and to-the-point kind of man.  He was an extremely loyal friend.  He will be missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Maverick Boys & Girls Club Wrestling Program, 1923 S Lincoln St, Amarillo, TX 79109.

  3. To the family . I’m so sorry to hear Hugh died. He has gone to heaven to be with little Hugh and Bo. He was a good man. Sincerely, Dianna Doyle
