He attended First Baptist Church and was a member of the Henry Brown Sunday School Class.

At the age of 12 years, he began a career in the newspaper printing industry that lasted a lifetime. One afternoon, he was riding a bicycle in downtown Anson when he noticed a help wanted ad in the window of the Western Enterprise (now the Western Observer). That evening he asked his father for permission to apply for the job. With encouragement from his father, he applied for the job and was hired.

Following graduation, he accepted a position with a daily newspaper, The Cisco Daily Press.

On the first day of the Korean War, he joined the Navy and attended printer’s school in San Francisco. He served aboard a ship for two years in Korea and later was transferred to Pearl Harbor where he worked printing top-secret documents. Also, he worked part-time for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

In 1955, he returned home on leave with the intent of re-enlisting in the Navy but was offered a job with the Abilene Reporter News. In 1957, he accepted a position as production director with the Amarillo Globe-News. He retired from the Amarillo newspaper in 1995.

The first person he met when he reported to work at the Globe-News was Jeane Spencer, secretary to the publisher. They were married in 1959.

Harry was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed building furniture.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, W. C. and Jack.

He is survived by his wife, Jeane, and three special nieces who helped care for him in recent years. They are Suzanne Whisenhunt and Debra Burks, both of Amarillo, TX, and Judy Pittman, of Roswell, NM.

The family requests that memorial donations are made to First Baptist Church.
