Gloria was born September 13, 1942, in North Carolina, to Robert and Mildred Ellman. She went to be with the Lord on February 14, 2020.     She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, H. R. ‘Randy’ Howell, whom she married in 1963 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Gloria was loved by many, and she returned that love freely to all that she met.  She spent many years as a homemaker – what a cookbook collection she had! Her life and that of her family’s changed forever when she received a phone call asking her to care for a child that needed a home. From that day forward, over 300 foster children, many with special needs, were nurtured by and experienced Gloria’s love. She always joked enthusiastically with caseworkers “My name’s Jimmy, and I’ll take what you gimme!” and lovingly welcomed another child to their home.

Gloria is Survived by seven children, Russ & wife Shannon Howell, Pam Howell, Tommy & wife Camille Howell, Bethany Howell, Lexie Howell, Jackson Howell, and Savannah “Lizzie” Howell; eight grandchildren, Tanner & wife Bria Howell, Roni Howell, Krista & husband Austin West, Logan Douglas, Genna Allison, Garrison Howell, Carsen Howell, & Ivy DeLaCerda; two great-grandchildren, Chloe West and Timothy Howell, daughters in love M’Lea & husband John Plank, Kylia & husband Robert Clampitt, Wendy Clampitt, and Payton Clampitt; and countless others.

Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 in Carter Chapel, 412 S. 2nd Street.
