Gloria Altman, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 at Llano Cemetery with Steve Gens officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Gloria Altman, nee Yarno, was born to Samuel and Mary Yarno in Brenham, Texas. Gloria was valedictorian of her high school class and Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Texas in Austin. After moving to Houston, Gloria married Albert Friedman and they had two sons, Lee and Bob. After Albert passed away, Gloria married Ben Altman of Amarillo, Texas in October of 1974. Gloria was married to Ben until his death on January 27, 1999. Gloria enjoyed playing bridge, speaking fluent French, and cruising the world. Her friends and family enjoyed Gloria’s sense of humor. Gloria did it her way to the very end.
She is survived by: her sons Lee Friedman and his wife, Marilyn Alexander, of Laguna Beach, California, Bob Friedman and his wife, Nancy Fractor, of Houston, Texas; her “Amarillo children and grandchildren,” Bobby and Chris Altman, Bonnie Altman, Alex Altman and his wife, Jessica Kirkland, Claire Altman, Andrew Altman, Allison Altman and son, Elijah Altman, Coleman Altman, and his wife, Shellie, and their three daughters; sister-in-law, Joan Altman; niece, Lynn Kamin, nephew, Mark Kamin, and their families.
The family wishes to extend special thanks and gratitude to Gloria’s caregivers, Flip Smith, Doris Gardner, Vanita Roberson, and Shandricka Bunton and to her longtime housekeeper, Maria Avila.
