Gladys Parr Dowell-March 13, 2011

Gladys Parr Dowell, 102, of Amarillo left us to join her Heavenly Father, her husband, Hubert, her son, Jairl, her parents, five sisters and many friends, on Sunday, March 13, 2011.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the First Christian Church with Reverend Marvin James and Dr. John Bridwell, Pastor Emeritus, officiating.  Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.   Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Dowell was born on March 12, 1909 in Missouri and moved to Amarillo in 1935, during the bad dust storm…. but stayed anyway.
She quilted, line danced and drove her car until she was ninety-nine years.   She traveled all over the world and was an excellent storyteller.   Mrs. Dowell was active in her church and was in one of the choirs who entertained at the nursing homes.  She worked as a sales clerk for Blackburns for twenty-five years.
Gladys never had a sick day in her life, until five days ago and always had a smile on her face.   All her friends loved her.
She leaves behind a daughter, Pat Underwood; two granddaughters, Pam Nielsen and Paige Tebeest; two grandsons, Kip Underwood and Austin Dowell; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to First Christian Church, 3001 Wolflin Ave. , Amarillo, TX 79109.

  1. I’m sorry to hear of my friends passing. I tried to call her on Saturday for her birthday. My family and I were traveling and thought we would wish her well. She was a wonderful lady and a joy to be around.
