George Henry Simmons – March 20, 2012


George Henry Simmons, 68, of Canyon, was called home to his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 20, 2012.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2012, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
George was born in Pampa on Dec. 14, 1943, to Johnnie and Leola (Ervin) Simmons.  After graduating from Pampa High School in 1962, he attended Cook County Junior College and WTA&MU.  He proudly served his country in the Texas National Guard from 1965-1971, during the Vietnam War.
He began working for the First National Bank of Pampa and continued his banking career as a state bank examiner with the Texas Department of Banking.  He retired from the Brazos River Water Authority in Round Rock.
George was known for his quick with and humor.  He was a very kind and gentle man who loved fishing, baseball, college football and mostly love of family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Terry Simmons.
Survivors include two sisters, Glenda Simmons Abston and husband Don of Amarillo and Sharon Simmons Miles and husband Mike of Wheeler; a brother, Charles Simmons and wife Gail of San Angelo; ten nieces and nephews; seventeen great-nieces and great-nephews; and one great-great-niece.
The family suggests memorials be to your favorite charity.
