George Fischer-July 27, 2011

George Fischer, 89, of Amarillo died on Wednesday, July 27, 2011.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Dr. G.A. Roach officiating.  Burial will at Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
George was born to George and Mary Dimples Fischer on January 25, 1922 in Throckmorton County, Texas.  After high school graduation he enrolled at Texas Tech, but soon dropped out to join the United States Marine Corp.  He spent most of World War II hedge hopping from one invasion to the next in the Pacific.  After the war, he was discharged and went back to Tech to finish his education.  While he was working on his Masters he married his college sweetheart, Peggy Lou Risenger.  They had three children, Larry, Michael and Lisa.  After her untimely death he moved his young family to Plainview where his mother lived.  Sometime later he met Norma Patterson, a widow with two children, Pat and Mike.  They were married August 7, 1964.  Their family grew to six children upon the birth of a daughter, Lori.  Together they reared the six children with never a mention of “step” children.  All six belonged to those two parents.  George’s life was devoted to his home and family.  He moved to Amarillo in 1972.
He retired from Cargill in 1990.  He had worked for Anderson Clayton ACCO Feeds as District Manager, where he excelled and received numerous awards for his work.  George greatly enjoyed square dancing.  He and Norma were active members of the Whirley Birds for twenty-five years.  There they made life long friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Barry, Douglas and Joe.
Survivors include his wife Norma Fischer; his children, Larry Fischer and wife Karen of Brownwood, Michael Fischer of Dennison, Lisa Howell and husband Jerry of Claude, Mike Patterson and wife Joan of Houston, Patricia Ellison and husband Tom of Austin, and Lori Mongold and husband Alan of Canyon; eleven grandchildren, Dennis, Joshua and wife Valerie, Paige and husband Toby, Taylor, Zoe, Max, Adam, Austin, David, Zach and Chris; two great granddaughters, Heather and Allie, and one brother, Henry Fischer and wife Kay of Odessa.

  1. George called on Ware and Stanley Fogerson for many years. We were customers of ACCO Feed and lived in Silverton, Tx. He was a true gentleman with a great personality. His word you could bank on and we appreciated that very much. Our deepest sympathy for the family.
