Garren Dorris, 29, of Amarillo, TX passed away on April 5, 2021.

Memorial services will be at 4:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church with Dan Carter officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Garren was born in Amarillo, TX on March 13, 1992, to Leea and Kenneth Dorris. His nickname from birth was “Gar Bear”. He graduated from Tascosa High School.

Garren joined the Utah Conservation Corps and traveled there twice, the second time he served as a Crew Lead. After his first stint in the Utah Conservative Corps, he stayed in Utah living in Salt Lake City for four years working at the airport as a de-icer and he helped in Human Resources with hiring and training people. After returning to Amarillo, Garren began working on himself, addressing his mental health issues, improving every day.

He recently wrote that he was looking forward to joining the Montana Conservation Corps, traveling in a van, obtaining his biology degree, and waking up to the smell of “the wonders of the forest”, and meeting an amazing woman. He also wrote that he knew life would be okay and continued to work on himself, knowing that he was always in a better spot.

Garren was kindhearted, generous, compassionate, passionate about the environment, never met a stranger, and non-judgmental. He loved electronic gadgets, technology, photography, nature, animals, getting a “good deal”, music, and flying his drone (finding peace and happiness). He enjoyed joining Milton at the cigar shop, visiting with all the “older men”. He also enjoyed taking Pearl (their dog) on long walks. Garren had many friends of all ages; spent time with his older neighbors, watching movies together. He was very opinionated and was often argumentative, especially when he felt strongly about something; enjoyed a good debate; stubborn. He enjoyed board games, playing records on his record player, talking about aliens with his Aunt, loved science fiction, loved to read, and loved to grow succulents. Garren always told his mother he loved her, was her biggest advocate, encouraging her whenever he talked to her. He was introduced to camping by his stepdad and enjoyed many trips; disliking beans, stated “mom there’s a bean on my hotdog”. Garren was indirectly responsible for the creation of the Facebook page “The Farklers” after introducing his friend Taylor to the dice game of Farkle. He always had fun at bonfires and enjoyed spending time with Aaron and his other friends, always cleaning up after them all. He was a practical joker, playing jokes on family often. Garren was all about safety, from a young age; always wanting people to wear their masks after COVID, buying masks to share with others so they could be protected. He was safe but had a sense of adventure.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Dorris; maternal grandparents, Sam and Linda Ferracane; and great-grandmother, Christelle Harvey.

Survivors include his mother, Leea Mayo; stepdad, Milton Mayo; stepbrother, Chance Mayo and wife Jackie; half-sisters, Lexie Dorris, and Megan Dorris; paternal grandmother, Neva Stegman; aunts, Jessie and husband Eric Coulter, Francesca and husband Adam Best, Lauren and husband Matt Albright; numerous cousins; many friends and neighbors; and “3rd grandmother”, Eva Russell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations are made to http://wildwestwildlife.com/ , https://www.insyncexotics.org/ , or any state conservation corps.
