Garrel Lloyd Westmoreland, 89, of Amarillo, died, Monday, November 14, 2011.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Rev. Danny Logan of Bell Avenue Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Westmoreland was born November 10, 1922, on the family farm in Nacogdoches to John and Florence Westmoreland. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a degree in Agriculture. He served from 1943 until 1945 in the United States Air Force as a radio operator on a C-47 aircraft in the South Pacific. He married Twyla Sue Baxter in June 1948. Mr. Westmoreland worked for the Soil Conservation Service until retirement and was a deacon in the Baptist Church since 1953.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Westmoreland; two brothers, Lindell and Lowell Westmoreland; and a sister, Jean Huckabee.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Twyla Sue Westmoreland; a daughter, Mary Osman; a grandson, Matthew Osman; a brother, Don Westmoreland; a sister, Dorris Welch; a sister-in-law, Tommie Westmoreland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
